Welcome

• Our news this month is about iFestival 2010. We would however like to start by wishing Deirdre Dennehy well as she leaves us for a new job. Deirdre has very successfully coordinated the Managed Learning project and been instrumental in developing a number of school websites. She has also been a great colleague and we wish her well.

iFestival 2010

• iFestival, will take place in the Central Library, Ilac Centre from 11th to 29th June. It will be launched in the ILAC Centre on the 11th June at 1:00 pm by Pat Carey, Minister for Community, Equality & Gaeltacht Affairs. You are very welcome to attend on the day. RSVP here.

During iFestival this year there will be a number of free short talks on the educational benefits of using ICT in the classroom.

• Game Making With Microsoft Kodu  - Wednesday 16th June 3:30pm
• LEGO In Education - Thursday 17th 3:30pm
• Learning With Nintendo - Thursday 24th June 3:30pm

There is also an opportunity for classes to participate in:

• LEGO workshops (3 sessions left)
• Meet children’s author Finbar O’Connor online. (2 places left)

Projects on view at the exhibition include comic making, animation, robotic lego, podcasting and computer gaming. This year there will also be photo, short story and family history projects on show. This exhibition celebrates the outstanding achievements of the young pupils and teachers involved in DISC.

For class groups visiting the exhibition there is a quiz to participate in and an opportunity to try out the new recently developed SMART interactive table for group work and special needs in primary schools.

The exhibition will continue in the Central Library for the month of June and admission is free.

We would really appreciate your support for iFestival 2010 by bringing a class along to the library, having them participate in one of the workshops or if you have 30 minutes to spare yourself by dropping into the library for one of the short talks.
